Setting up filters in Netscape Messenger

These instructions are for Netscape 4.*
If you don't have the latest version
get it HERE

The first step is creating a place to put the junk mail or SPAM.
  1. Start Netscape Messenger
  2. Click on File and then on New Folder
  3. Give the box a name. I just call mine SPAM
  4. Click OK
Now you have a place to put the garbage! Next we will make a filter.
  1. Now click on Edit
  2. Now on Mail Filters, It will bring up a window like the one below.
  3. Click on New

Now we will create a filter that will send any mail from cyberpromo.com to the SPAM mailbox. They are one of the biggest senders of junk mail.

  1. Type in Cyberpromo for the filter name
  2. Leave the Sender of the message Contains as it is and type in cyberpromo.com in the blank box.
  3. Leave the Move to folder as it is and select your SPAM folder from the drop down menu.
  4. Click on OK and OK again to save it.


Well, that's one! The next one you should make is for savetrees.com. As you saw in the pull down menus there are many options you can select at from, to, subject, body and so on. You do want to take care in some of these. Don't make a filter for aol.com just because you got junk mail from someone there. It you do, all mail you get from aol will end up in your SPAM box.

There is a site at http://www.csn.net/~felbel/jmemail.html that has much info on filters and noted spam domains. Give it a look. It may help your head from hurting so bad when you start your email and get a flood of junk.

Remember ... You can't stop them from sending it (I even get it to support@rio.com) but you don't have to read it!
